Meghan Markle and Prince Harry pose for first portrait since stepping down as royals

October 18, 2020

It seems like just yesterday Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped down as senior members of the royal family.

In a new photo, the couple is smiling in their first official portrait since their big announcement.

The adorable image was captured by Matt Sayles for the couple’s upcoming "Time100 Talk," which they are hosting on Oct. 20, with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, Rappler CEO Maria Ressa, and the hosts of the "Teenager Therapy" podcast as their guests.

Meghan and Harry are seen in the black and white photo with the actress resting her arm on her husband’s lap.

In January, the couple announced that they will be taking a step back from their royal duties to focus on their family by becoming more financially independent and transitioning into a “progressive new role” within the institution.

Several months after, it was reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would no longer receive any money from Prince Charles. Both Harry and Meghan announced that they would be paying back taxpayer money to renovate their United Kingdom home, known as Frogmore Cottage.

Since stepping down from her royal duties, Markle has been keeping a low profile.
Recently, the couple announced the name of their new foundation. The couple confirmed that their post-royal charitable organization would be called “Archewell.”

The foundation will replace their Sussex Royal brand as they are no longer permitted to use the word “royal” per Queen Elizabeth’s orders.
