In the footsteps of Lady Antebellum (now Lady A), The Dixie Chicks are changing their name. Natalie Maines and sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer, will now go by the Chicks. They decided to make the change in support of Black Lives Matter, since Dixie typically refers to the southern states that seceded to form the Confederacy. Now, a New Zealand band already exists with the same name, but according to the Dixie chicks, “A sincere and heartfelt thank you goes out to ‘The Chicks’ of NZ for their gracious gesture in allowing us to share their name. We are honored to co-exist together in the world with these exceptionally talented sisters.” Too bad Lady Antebellum didn’t think to ask singer Lady A for her permission first. The Chicks will be releasing their first album in 14 years, called “Gaslighter” on July 17, and they just released a music video for one of their new songs, called “March March” in support of protesters. Beyoncé is being honored at the 2020 BET Awards this Sunday night with the Humanitarian Award for, among other things, her BeyGOOD initiative. She established “Formation Scholars” to encourage and support young women in four colleges. Here are a few other things she’s done;
In 2018, she created the Homecoming Scholars Award Program, following her historic performance at Coachella, which benefited students at eight HBCU colleges and universities.
In response to the coronavirus situation, she teamed up with her mother, Tina Knowles-Larson, for the #IDIDMYPART mobile testing initiative to encourage residents in Houston’s Black and brown communities.
The release of “Black Parade” came with an announcement of her BeyGOOD Black Business Fund. It will be administered by the National Urban League to support Black-owned small businesses.
And she partnered with UNICEF to create “BeyGood4Burundi” this year brings safe water and sanitation to the small, landlocked East African country of Burundi.
Also at the 2020 BET Awards, Lil Wayne will pay tribute to the late Kobe Bryant, and Wayne Brady will celebrate the life and legacy of Little Richard.

“The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening is opening up on why he chose yellow for the characters’ skin color. He said he wanted to make the Springfield residents look memorable and interesting and to stand out from the crowd of other animated series that were currently on the air. Matt said, “An animator came up with the Simpsons’ yellow, and as soon as she showed it to me I said, ‘This is the answer!’ When you’re flicking through channels with your remote control, and a flash of yellow goes by, you’ll know you’re watching The Simpsons.” On top of that, yellow has a psychological effect on the human brain. YouTube creator ChannelFrederator pointed out that certain cartoon characters (Simpsons, Tweety Bird, and SpongeBob SquarePants, for example) are yellow because of color theory. Yellow is the most visible color to the human eye because of the way our eyes process light. Yellow is also known to be a color that represents optimism and joy. Read more at cheatsheet.com.

Julia Roberts is going to be a great-aunt! Her niece, “American Horror Story” actress Emma Roberts is reportedly expecting her first child with her boyfriend, "Tron: Legacy" actor Garrett Hedlund. Emma, 29, and Garrett, 35, have been together for just over a year, according to Us Weekly.

Megyn Kelly, who was fired from her show for how she approached her discussion about blackface in 2018 is now sharing her thoughts about what’s happening with NBC now. After Tina Fey asked the network to pull episodes of “30 Rock” which featured characters in blackface makeup, Megyn tweeted, “So it turns out that when [former NBC News chief] Andy Lack said, ‘There is no place on our air,’ for my discussion of blackface, it was [because] NBC was already chalk-full of shows and major stars actually wearing blackface ... on the air ... at NBC.”

“Star Wars” actor John Boyega (Finn) woke up to find out that he was getting married. A woman on Twitter submitted a video to ask him to consider her for marriage. However, someone set up a fake Twitter account and accepted the woman’s proposal on John’s behalf. The person pretending to be John wrote, “I would love to consider you for marriage. Just drop me a quick DM and we can go from there.” John started seeing messages online about him being engaged. He wrote, “Why is the [timeline] saying I’ve just accepted [a] marriage proposal? I’m here minding my own business.” Once he figured out what was going on, he wrote, “What kind of corny response is this? At least if you’re pretending to be me…add sauce to your approach…”

Kim Kardashian posted yet another picture of her showing something off, this time her teeny tiny waist in corset. “The Good Place” star Jameela Jamil’s fans reached out to her to ask why she hasn’t commented on the photo yet since she is always trying to promote body positivity and shame celebrities, especially Kim, for feeding into the problem. Jameela reposted the pic in question and responded, “I’ve received over 1000 DMs asking me to address this. The reason I didn’t jump on it immediately isn’t because I don’t think the post was damaging and disappointing. I do. It’s because the fact that you’re all messaging me about it, shows my work is done. I haven’t been trying to cancel Kim K. I was always trying to arm YOU with the knowledge to recognize for YOURSELVES that this is a bullshit expectation of women, developed by the patriarchy. If YOU know that it’s problematic, reductive and irresponsible for her to perpetuate such a heavily impossible beauty standard to her impressionable fans... then you’re empowered and conscious and don’t need me.” And she had much more to say about Kim, which you can read at dlisted.com.

Kristen Bell, who plays Molly Tillerman on Apple TV+'s animated show “Central Park,” and Jenny Slate, who plays Missy on Netflix's animated show “Big Mouth,” are stepping away from their roles as biracial characters. Kristen said in a statement, "This is a time to acknowledge our acts of complicity. Casting a mixed race character with a white actress undermines the specificity of the mixed race and Black American experience." Jenny wrote, "At the start of the show, I reasoned with myself that it was permissible for me to play Missy because her mom is Jewish and White — as am I - but Missy is also Black, and Black characters on an animated show should be played by Black people...In my playing Missy, I was engaging in an act of erasure of Black people." The announcement from the two sparked the Twitterverse to go after James Earl Jones, the voice of Darth Vader, despite the actor in the suit being White (David Prowse). According to one Twitter user, “James Earl Jones played Darth Vader, a White guy. No one thought it was weird. Voice actors bring a voice to a character, not a race.” Another person said, “If there’s a talented voice actor that is race appropriate, cast that actor. It’s simple.” Others said comparing the actresses’ roles to James Earl Jones wasn’t fair because, despite the actor in the Darth Vader suit being white, James “was playing a cyborg man in a robot suit, not a White guy. He was playing something that doesn’t exist.” And of course, one person had to take it to the crazy place with, “James Earl Jones about to [apologize] for taking a voice acting role away from a lion somewhere in Africa.”

Sensitive information about Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey is about to be auctioned off by celebrity hackers Revil, according to AceShowbiz. You might recall this is the group that attacked celebrity law firm Allen Grubman earlier this year 2020 and threatened to release privileged information about their famous clients unless they paid a ransom of $42 million. The company refused, and REvil has been releasing and auctioning off the information they allegedly have about the celebrities. Info on Nicki and Mariah is starting at $600,000, with more to come. A spokesperson for law firm said, "The most recent post is yet another desperate nuisance tactic these criminals are using to try to squeeze out a profit from stolen data. Our clients and the entertainment industry as a whole have overwhelmingly applauded the firm's position that we will not give in to extortion." I can’t imagine Mariah and Nicki are applauding anything right now.
